jade vines: straight out of Avatar

One of our days in Jamaica was entered dedicating to river rafting down the Rio Grande. It’s called river rafting but to be honest it was more of a drift along the river at a glacial pace - really slowing down.

One of our first stops along this river journey was for a short hike to a hidden waterfall… walking through the lush jungles, between the banana trees we came across our new friends who had recently purchased and built a home in this little paradise.

Spotted their “check your energy before you enter” sign at the entrance and walked in to what looked like a scene from Avatar. Surrounded by these beautiful plants that seemed artificial - turquoise blooms and clusters of claw-shaped flowers. A surreal scene. They’re called Jade Vines and are absolutely magnificent.

The sweet nectar of the jade flower

This plant also holds a sweet nectar - if you squeeze the bulb, you’ll get a single drop of sweet nectar. How magical. Fun fact: their flowers have been designed by nature to be pollinated by bats!

Look for them, find them, plant them if your soil and climate allows you… but if it does, trust on me this - you’ll turn your home into an enchanted oasis.

Nature… our infinite source of creativity and inspiration.
